About Me
What I do
I champion for positive and historically accurate representation of the New York City graffiti art movement in museums, educational institutions, advertising, film and media. I curate, consult, lecture and document, but most importantly, I research and question. I do so because graffiti is a vast and nuanced culture and there are countless untold stories and misconceptions to be revealed. The culture is constantly evolving and is a continual source of interest to me. I strongly believe in the validity and relevance of the art form and the value of preserving and sharing its history.
How we can partner

Bio
Eric DEAL Felisbret is a graffiti artist, author, curator, photographer and an acknowledged authority on New York City graffiti history. He has spent over four decades participating in the culture and documenting it.
Raised in New York City, Felisbret observed the graffiti movement from its infancy, and in 1975 started writing graffiti himself. In 1977 he began photographing graffiti on the subways. During this time he forged close friendships with some of the most important figures in the movement including Lee Quinones and Dondi White.
Being an active graffiti artist served as fieldwork, allowing for intimate access to and a first-hand understanding of the culture.
A self described graffiti fanatic, Felisbret has maintained a lifelong dedication to the preservation of the history of New York City graffiti. He has worked on numerous projects supporting that commitment.
In 1998 he launched @149st (www.at149st.com), one of the Internet's earliest graffiti websites and the first site dedicated solely to New York City’s graffiti culture and history.
In 2009 he wrote the book Graffiti New York (Abrams) — a comprehensive observation of the art form across four decades.
He has contributed to and partnered on numerous graffiti art exhibitions. In 2022 Felisbret joined artist Al SAMO Diaz and educator Mariah Fox to curate Diaz's City of Kings — A History of New York City Graffiti at Howl! Arts in New York City.
His photography has been published in The Washington Post, The New York Times, Vice Magazine, The Source magazine, numerous books on graffiti, and in the Netflix documentary series The Andy Warhol Diaries.
His writing on graffiti has appeared in The New York Times, Stress magazine, Elemental magazine and The Michigan Citizen.
Today Felisbret continues to document graffiti in New York CIty and across the world.
